Design and main components

Cutting unit

The cutting unit of the AM 105 roadheader consists of an SG400/L gearbox and a 105-GW-87 cutting head, equipped with two assemblies of 87 rotary cutting picks each, mounted in holders using retaining rings. The cutting head has a diameter of 1290 mm and operates at a cutting speed of 1.4 m/s, allowing effective excavation even in hard rock with compressive strength of up to 160 MPa.

The SG400 gearbox is a four-stage spur–bevel–planetary mechanism with a compact design, directly coupled to the motor. With a gear ratio of 73.58, the torque increases from 1950 Nm at the input to 140.6 kNm at the output at only 20 rpm.

The gearbox also allows adjustment of rotational speed by selecting the appropriate gear stage in the spur gear section.

Slewing mechanism (turntable)

The slewing mechanism of the AM 105 roadheader enables precise control of the cutting boom in both horizontal and vertical planes. The use of a plain bearing ensures smooth, vibration-free operation, even under difficult operating conditions. Horizontal movement is achieved by two hydraulic cylinders working in conjunction with racks and a ring gear, with a maximum slewing angle of approximately 37° to the left or right. Vertical deflection reaches approximately 70° and is hydraulically actuated by cylinders mounted at the base of the boom.

Loader and material handling system of the AM 105

The AM 105 roadheader is equipped with a loading table of adjustable width — standardly from 5200 to 5900 mm, with the option to extend it up to 7200 mm. The excavated material is collected by gathering arms and transported by a scraper chain conveyor to downstream haulage equipment. The entire system is driven by a gearbox that synchronizes the operation of the gathering arms with the movement of the chain.

Control system

The roadheader is equipped with a modern ICACUTROCK control system, which enables precise monitoring and control of operating parameters. The use of an electrohydraulic cutting head stabilization system increases safety and cutting precision, even in the most demanding operating conditions.
