Operational capabilities of the roadheader
The MR 340 roadheader is a heavy-duty cutting machine designed for the excavation of workings with cross-sections of up to 34 m². Thanks to its robust design, high tractive force, and the use of modern hydraulic and electrical systems, it performs exceptionally well in medium- and high-strength rock formations.
The machine can operate in workings with inclinations of up to ±18°, and with the use of an anchoring system — even up to ±32°.
The roadheader is also designed for operation in potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX).
Where is the MR 340 roadheader used?
The MR 340 roadheader is used in underground mining operations worldwide — both in hard coal mines and in deposits of shale, sandstone, and other medium- to high-strength rock formations. Owing to its high cutting capacity, it is successfully employed in the excavation of main haulage, technical, and production roadways.
The machine performs excellently during preparatory works in new seam areas as well as during the expansion of existing mining infrastructure. The MR 340 supports mineral extraction in locations with difficult geological conditions while aligning with ongoing technological progress and innovation in mining. Its design and technical capabilities make it a reliable working partner at any mining face.

MR 340 roadheader – price
The purchase cost of the MR 340 roadheader depends on several factors — primarily its technical condition, the scope of refurbishment work carried out, the level of modernization, and the available optional equipment. Purchasing a new or extensively modernized unit directly from the manufacturer often involves costs that exceed the budgets of many mining operations; therefore, it is worth considering alternative solutions, such as acquiring a roadheader after a professional overhaul.
Our company regularly prepares and offers MR 340 roadheaders after comprehensive refurbishment and renewal — fully operational, carefully inspected, and ready for underground work.
If you are interested in purchasing this type of machine, please contact us. We will be happy to provide information about the current availability of MR 340 roadheaders and units that may soon be prepared for sale.

Design and main components of the MR 340 roadheader
Cutting unit and gearbox of the MR 340 roadheader
The key working assembly of the MR 340 roadheader is the cutting head equipped with 2 × 50 cutting picks mounted in EF58 system holders. The cutting head is designed for cutting rock with compressive strength of up to 100 MPa. It is driven by a 200 kW electric motor cooperating with a three-stage gear transmission (bevel, spur, and planetary), delivering torque exceeding 51000 Nm. The cutting speed is 2.3 m/s, enabling effective operation even in difficult geological conditions.
Slewing mechanism (turntable)
The slewing assembly allows precise control of the cutting head both vertically (+63° / –22°) and horizontally (±45°). The design is based on a slewing ring and hydraulic cylinders, ensuring system rigidity and operational safety during excavation in hard rock formations.
Loading system and conveyor
The excavated material is transferred onto a loading table with adjustable width ranging from 4.72 to 5.12 m, from where it is moved by two gathering arms (“paddles”) to the chain conveyor. The twin-chain conveyor, with a capacity of up to 300 m³/h, enables efficient material haulage. Components in contact with the excavated material are protected with 10 mm thick abrasion-resistant steel.
Undercarriage
Two independent crawler drives with a track width of 600 mm ensure maneuverability and allow operation in workings with inclinations of up to ±18°, and with the use of an anchoring system — even up to ±32°.
Power supply, control, and hydraulics
The roadheader is powered by a 1000 V / 50 Hz supply, with a total installed power of 357 kW. Explosion-proof enclosures as well as insulation and load monitoring systems are applied. The hydraulic system is based on three independent circuits with pumps providing a total flow rate of up to 1300 l/min, ensuring precise control of all machine functions.
